Overview

The Datomizer® Enterprise setup wizard will help you configure Datomizer® Enterprise with your connected storage provider (for example, AWS, Azure, Google and IBM) accounts:

  1. Configure Datomizer® with your connected storage provider account.
  2. Create a Vault.
    1. Select the Storage Nodes you want use in a Vault.
    2. Choose the type of Vault.
    3. Configure the Vault. Set the compression, deduplication and encryption settings.
  3. Set up other users' access rights to the Vault.

If Datomia has provided an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) for you to install on your own AWS account.

Log into Datomizer® Enterprise for the First Time

At the Login screen:

  1. Enter the Admin name and password

     
    1. The default user is admin.

    2. The password is admin.
  1. Click LOG IN

You can change the the Admin name and password in Settings.

Setup a New Cluster

You can create a new cluster or join an existing cluster (if a cluster already exists).

  1. Click on Create New Cluster.




  2. Enter an IP address for the cluster. 

  3. Click Join.



    The cluster will start up.

    The System Start Up Screen appears.

  4. Click on Setup New System.

Provide the License File

  1. Read the license agreement, and select the I accept checkbox. 
  2. Click NEXT



  3. Drag and Drop the (.crypt) file onto the dialog screen, or upload the file.
    Contact Datomia to request a license file, if you do not have it. 

     

  4. Click NEXT
    Change the Default Admin Password.

On the next screen, you will be asked to change the default password for the Admin user. 

  1. Enter a password
  2. Retype the password in the second field.
  3. Click DONE.

    Datomia® will configure your system, and the Datomia® dashboard will be displayed.

If Datomia provided an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) for you to install on your own AWS account

If Datomia provided you with an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) for you to install on your own AWS account, you also have the option of a free 30 day trial of Datomizer® Enterprise. 

To do this:

  1. Log into Datomizer® Enterprise.
    1. The default user is admin.
    2. The password is admin.
  2. Click on Create New Cluster.
  3. Enter an IP address for the cluster. 
  4. Click Join.
    The cluster will start up.
    The System Start Up Screen appears.
  5. Click on Setup New System.
    The EULA screen appears.
  6. Read the license agreement, and select the I accept checkbox. 
  7. Click NEXT
    The Provide the License File screen appears.
  8. On the Provide the License File screen, click the Free Trial (30 days) button.
    The License dialog screen showing the free trial License ID, expiry date, and storage quota appears. Keep a record of these. 
  9. Click Next.
    The Storage dialog screen appears. 
  10. Click Add.
    The list of storage providers appears. 
  11. Select Amazon
    The Credentials dialog screen appears. This screen will prompt you to enter your AWS account details.
  12. Enter your Amazon Account Name, Access Key and Secret Key. 
    You will find this information in the EC2 management console in AWS.
  13. Click Next.
    The Storage Nodes screen appears. It will display the connected AWS account. 

  14. Click Next.
    The Vault Password Configuration screen appears.

  15. Set a Datomizer® Administrator password in the admin password field.

  16. Enter the Datomizer® Administrator password again in the Confirm admin password field.
  17. Click Next.
    The Key file screen appears. 
  18. Enter the Key File password. This can be found on the Your Security Credentials Screen in AWS.
  19. Enter the Key File password again in the Confirmation field.
  20. When the Key File has downloaded, click Done

    Store the Key File and the password in a safe place.

Datomia® will configure your system, and the Datomia® dashboard will be displayed.

Create New Vault

  1. Click Create New Vault

Choose the Storage Nodes 

  1. Select Storage Nodes
    You will see all the Storage Nodes available. 

  2. Choose the Storage Nodes you want the Vault to use. 
    You must choose more than one Storage Node. 
  3. Click Next.
    The Data Protection screen appears.
  4. Choose the level of data protection. Use the - and buttons to change  how many Storage Nodes or datacenters can fail. 
    We recommend 30% to 50%, so you will have allow reliable and complete access to your data.
  5. Click Next.

     

Choose the Vault Type

  1. Choose the Vault type.  

    Global File System: Provides high performance and unlimited storage capacity. Use Global File System if you need unlimited storage capacity accessible from different geographical areas.

    Archive: Use Archive if you need low storage costs, with fast retrieval speeds. This is ideal for fast backups, as well as archives that may need to be retrieved from time to time. It provides long term storage of data that is compressed and deduplicated. All the data is compressed automatically.
  2. Click Next

Choose Vault Name and Size

You can give your Vault a name and description, and set the file size for the Vault.

 

  1. Enter a unique name in the Vault Name field.
  2. Enter a description in the Vault Description field. This field is optional. 
  3. Enter the file size in the Vault Size field.
  4. Click Next
    The Configuration screen appears.

Configure Vault

Choose Access Protocols

  1. Choose NFS or SAN.
    For NFS, you can also configure remote access.
  2. Click Next.

Select Features

Features allow Datomizer® to use special algorithms for optimizing and reducing your data's storage size in the Vault.

  • Compression: Sets the type of lossless algorithm for compressing your data.
    • LZO has faster compression and decompression times than ZLIB, but it has a lower compression ratio.
    • zlib has a higher compression ratio, but it is comparatively slow. It uses the zlib level 3 setting.
  • Deduplication: Eliminates duplicate copies of repeated data. The algorithms look for repeating blocks of information and replaces them in order to reduce the overall storage size.
  1. Use the slider button to turn on or turn off compression.
    1. Choose the compression algorithm (LZO or zlib).
  2. Use the slider button to turn on or turn off deduplication.
  3. Click Next.
    The Encryption screen appears. 

Choose Encryption Password

You can encrypt your Vault and prevent unauthorized access to your data. 

  1. Use the slider button to activate. 
  2. Enter a password.
  3. Enter the password again in the Confirmation field.
  4. Click Next.
    The Set Samba Access Permissions screen appears.  

Set Samba Access Permissions

You can enable an access for specific groups and for specific users. You can also enable guest access.


  1. Enable any users or groups you want to grant Vault access via Samba.
  2. Use the slider button if you want to activate guest access. 
    This allows access without credentials.
  3. Click Done.

You Can Now Start Using Datomizer® Enterprise

The screen will display Please wait. System is initializing

The Datomizer® dashboard will then appear. 

You can now start using Datomizer® Enterprise:

  1. Follow the instructions described in the Using Datomizer® section.
