It stores data objects, such as files, images, videos and database records, by creating encoded Data Atoms™ with Data DNA® encoded as Data Atoms™ and geographically dispersing them in many private and public data centers. Each data center independent hardware device is abstracted as a 'storage node', and “Storage Node”. A Storage Node can be represented by a data center, server, SSD or HDD, although its actual implementation is not really relevant. 

This produces a very secure, highly dependable, data storage platform, even when you are using private storage nodes that are composed of commodity hardware, which are not, on their own, particularly dependable or secure. 

Any Cloud, Any Time, Multi Cloud all the time 

Datomia® supports any single or combination of public data centers, such as Amazon, Azure, Google, IBM Cloud (or Softlayer), in a multi-cloud solution. Any single or multiple cloud providers can be used, as well as any hypervisor, and with any type of storage. This interchangeability means you can effectively "hot swap" “hot swap” your data between different cloud storage providers. 

There is no vendor lock-in or cloud storage lock-in. The customer has the full power to decide which vendor they want to work with, and can even change vendors on the fly. You have full control over data in the cloud, which is managed with a simple-to-use control center.

Datomia's ®’s Failed Node Protection secures stored data against system failures in the data center, availability zone, server, or network, and keeps businesses running without downtime. 

Scalability

Datomia® easily handles the requirements of storage growth by adding new storage nodes - at any time, without any downtime. This unlimited scale up is supported by public cloud storage (S3-type) nodes. The system can automatically distribute Data AtomsTM to newly added nodes in the case if a node goes offline or is unreachable for any reason. Removing storage nodes is as easy as adding new ones.

Traditional NAS solutions typically run in a single instance, virtual machine or appliance. Datomia® can run many NAS instances, in any data center, all with a consistent view of the cloud-backed data. 

This means organizations can aggregate disk space located on many storage nodes regardless of geographic proximity, acting as a single name space which is visible on Unix and Windows file systems. 

In other words, anyone who is logged in to the vault will see the same set of files, from any location. One office can run Datomia® in London and another office in New York, and they will see and access the exact same file system.
